The MAA Committee on Departmental Review (formerly known as the MAA Committee on Consultants) provides recommendations to mathematical sciences departments (including combined departments, e.g. math and computer science) for external consultants to participate in periodic self-study and program review processes. Thus the committee is charged with identifying individuals who are both willing and well prepared to serve as departmental consultants, insuring a sufficient variety of expertise to meet the needs of different types of departments at both two- and four-year institutions.
If you are interested in being considered for recommendation to serve as an external consultant by the Committee, we ask that you complete this survey so that we can align our recommendations with the needs of the requesting departments.
It is assumed that anyone willing to serve as a consultant considers themselves broadly qualified to evaluate the undergraduate program in mathematics, including both the overall curriculum and pedagogical strategies and is familiar with the ideas and reference materials discussed in the Committee’s “MAA Guidelines for Serving as a Consultant in the Mathematical Sciences” (see
www.maa.org/ProgramReview
).

The Committee also provides materials to support the self-study process in the Committee’s “MAA Guidelines for Undertaking a Self-Study in the Mathematical Sciences” (see
www.maa.org/ProgramReview
). We encourage you to review these guidelines prior to beginning your program review process or selecting outside consultants.
